When should you visit the South of France?
It’s no mystery why tourists flock to the French Riviera, turning it into the ultimate playground for the rich and famous. There’s indescribable magic about the south of France, where everything is enchanting, smiles are contagious, and you can’t get enough of the Mediterranean sun. Delightful cuisine, fine wine, and perfumed aromatic streets fill the place. That’s precisely why my family and I plan to vacation here yearly. The French Riviera, or Côte d’Azur, stretches along the Mediterranean coast of southern France, embracing charming havens like Marseille, St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, and the pint-sized Monaco. No wonder it often tops the dream retirement destination list.

If the South of France is on your radar, this list of 10 remarkable places in the South of France is your golden ticket. Forget about tour guides; armed with some research and our handy blog article, you’ll be all set to plan the perfect family vacation. While the French Riviera boasts excellent weather year-round, I’d suggest aiming for May to July or September. This way, you avoid the scorching sun and the overwhelming tourist surge in August.

Transportation in the French Riviera
What’s fantastic about the south of France is how easily accessible everything is. Whether you opt for public transport or a rental car, convenience is at your fingertips. During our last adventure, we chose Sixt for car rentals, with several locations within walking distance from our Airbnb. You may need a car or public transport to explore one of the 10 most remarkable places in the South of France. There is no transportation required once you arrive at each spot. Flying in? No need to fuss over Euros – Uber or credit card-friendly taxis have you covered.
Regarding currency exchange, do yourself a favour and swap your cash back home before the trip. We prefer going cashless, especially with pickpockets in full swing during the tourist season. A game-changer app for us on the last trip was Wise – it is safe and saves you a ton on currency exchange. Additionally, it doubles as a virtual credit card throughout your journey.
